Not As Easy As 1, 2, 3…

"I’ll start by saying that I tested this base with blended scents so my review is based on this. I also tried this with mostly non-Makesy scents. The first blend used the autumn spice & pumpkin patch scent by Makesy and a CS scent. I immediately knew this would be cloud/milky so the first batch was a wash. Lol. The 2nd batch I added the Biosolv to the FO blend at 5:1 ratio. Not ideal since the Biosolv is fairly thick (like honey or syrup). At this ratio I managed to get the blend fairly clear. There’s still a light tent to the spray since the FO are in the citrus family, but it’s not terrible. My biggest issue is how long it took to make a small batch (3 bottles). When they say you have to stir slow to remove cloudiness and bubbles, you have to stir slow, slower than you would think, painstakingly slow. This will take you about 30-45 mins to combine the Biosolv mixture with this base and baby it’s gone take some patience. My room spray also looked like it was going to turn milky immediately like it did with the witch hazel base, but I decided to push through since I was on batch 3. Thankfully as I got to nearly the last of combining the Biosolv/FO into the base it magically started to appear less milky/cloudy. As for the second scent, I made it without the Biosolv and used a blend of CS scents. This spray came out cloudy and I could see the FO beads settle at the bottom of the capri spray bottles from Makesy. Again smells good, but it seems like if you blend scents you’ll need polysorbate 20 or Biosolv to help the FOs break down for a clear product and honestly the cost of the Biosolv could take a simple/affordable room spray to a costly product that will eat into your margins. Now I’m not sure if this base works better with single scents or only Makesy scents, but the blends I tried didn’t resulted in the best looking products."

organic alcohol & witch hazel base

"I think that this base was okay for the room spray I was using it for. It does have a strong witch hazel scent in which I had to add more fragrance oil to mask but once I accomplished the masking the smell changed. Based on that I would say that the price could come down a bid due to the fact that you have to overuse fragrance to cover the strong smell or if there is a way to mitigate the smell in the base that would work too. The packaging was good as well as I did not have any leaks in the products I ordered."

Q&A

Can I use other fragrances from other companies, such as Candlescience, if it is labeled as soap safe? Will this effect the performance of the alcohol if I was using it as hand sanitizer?
Hi Alex, That should be fine! Always test a small batch before producing large quantities to make sure the product is turning out as you hoped!
Trying to make a body spray. I started with 7% FO + base. It was separating so I added polysorbate then it became milky. Still smells base heavy so I increased it to 10% FO and did a 2:1 polysorbate to FO ratio but it's still milky and still smells like witch hazel. What am I doing wrong?
HI Sarah, Are you mixing the Poly with the fragrance oil first? If you are still having trouble, I would recommend reaching out to our customer service team for additional troubleshooting.
Can you make Rose Water spray or facial spray with this? I usually make Rose water with Distilled water and organic rose petals, but I wasn’t sure if I could use a small amount of this to give it a toner effect.
Hi Ally, I wouldn't recommend using a base with alcohol to spray on the face. Try this base instead. https://makesy.com/products/organic-wildcrafted-witch-hazel?_pos=1&_psq=witch&_ss=e&_v=1.0
Can I use this product for room spray
HI Natalie, Yes, you can!
Hi , how much witch hazel and alcohol in the 16 oz bottle. & is it a strong smell .
Hi Kay, There are 16oz of product in that bottle. There is a scent, but the smell from the witch hazel is 100% normal and is produced by the natural flowers that it's made with.
