Today, candle makers know that finding new ways to attract customers attention and stand out in a crowded marketplace of highly creative artisans is an ongoing marketing journey. That's why we love wooden wicks! A truly unique and engaging candle is created using wooden wicks… with a modern appeal, an intriguing visual aesthetic, and an enticing soft crackling sound. Makesy currently sells to DIY candle makers, national brands and manufacturers in over 70 countries around the world!
Makesy is the exclusive licensed distributor of the wooden wicks, developed by the creator of the original wooden wick, Lumetique, Inc. As our customer, your wicks are protected under dozens of International patents. Makesy has a quick turnaround time, consistency in high quality product and service, and we offer an extensive product line with unlimited customization options. Not only that, but when you purchase our wooden wicks, we plant a tree and you help improve the living conditions of families in other countries.
Wooden wicks can be customized to have a more unique visual effect and design. Wooden wicks create a unique horizontal flame. In larger diameter candles, wooden wicks can produce a full melt pool with only one wick eliminating the need to use multiple wicks (in most cases). Wooden wicks create an alluring crackling sound when burning for added ambiance. Being rigid, wooden wicks are very easy to use, saving time and money in production. There is no need to secure to a wick bar or dowels and no straightening is needed as there is with cotton wicks, which require a great deal of time to set up. Wooden wicks do not mushroom, have little to no carbon build-up, no debris and no sooting like cotton wicks. Wooden wicks are completely American made, being sourced and manufactured in the USA from the Forest Stewardship Council. There are multiple options available for optimal performance as well as visual aesthetic when using wooden wicks compared to cotton wicks. Wooden wicks provide a modern, unique and more upscale look to enhance a candle's value.
Making candles with wooden wicks isn't that different from making candles with cotton wicks. In fact, it's actually a little easier and less time consuming as there's no need to straighten or secure the wick with wick bars, dowels or sticks. We suggest following this simple guide:
Determine your wick size using our sample kit and wick selection guide. Secure your wooden wick into the wick clip. Secure the wick clip to the bottom center of your vessel with a wick sticker. Heat your wax to the specified temperature for your wax type. Add your candle scent and dye, if any, to the melted wax in the pouring pitcher (fragrance level and dye have a direct impact on the burn of a candle and you will need to experiment with different levels to achieve optimum performance). Gently pour the wax into the vessel, leaving 1/8″ - 3/16″ / 3.2Mm - 4.8Mm of the wick exposed. If the wick is longer you can trim it to this height after the wax has set. After the candle has cooled: if the surface is uneven or has imperfections, you can carefully use a heat gun to even it out. Be very careful not to burn the wick, this is a quick process of gently waving the heat gun a few inches above the surface to quickly melt it.Once the candle has set, trim the wick to 1/8″ - 3/16″ / 3.2mm - 4.8mm.

We want to provide you with the best experience possible, so we take customer satisfaction very seriously. Because candle making is a complex procedure with many extenuating factors, we can not guarantee how a wick will perform or crackle in your particular wax blend and vessel. Please begin with the Wick Sample Kit and perform all of the necessary testing to determine the best wick for your particular candle. Our YouTube Channel is an excellent resource to get you started.
Trim the wick to 1/8″ – 3/16″ / 3.2Mm – 4.8Mm this is extremely important.Place candles on a heat-resistant surface in a safe, draft-free, undisturbed space with moderate ambient temperature.Light the candles and note the time. Do not leave candles unattended. After two hours observe the melt pool. At this point, the melt pool should have reached the full diameter of the candle. If it has not reached the edges, it's likely that the wick is too small or the wick was too long when lit.Record the details of the melt pool, the flame height, and any smoking or sooting. (We suggest taking a photo for easy reference.)After four hours, take note of the details once again and extinguish the candle. The melt pool should reach the edge of the vessel and be ½” / 12.7Mm deep. If the melt pool is deeper than ½” / 12.7Mm, or if the flame is too high, the vessel is too hot, or there is any sooting, the wick is too big.Let the candle cool completely for several hours and repeat the steps above. Before each lighting of the wooden wick, be sure to gently tap off any ash or burnt-top edge.
As of January 2020, our ready-made wick heights are 3" and 5" for flat wicks; 5” for Spiral and 6” for Tube wicks. For additional height options, please select Custom Sized-Wicks.
Yes. Please select Custom-Sized Wicks.
There is no minimum, however, a set up fee of $30 will be charged per order for quantities under 1,000. Delivery time will range between 1-3 weeks.
The minimum order quantity for our ready-made wick options is 100 pieces.
Yes! Wick Trimming is available through our Custom-Sized Wicks selection. To have your wicks custom trimmed, please include your desired custom trim height in your order notes at checkout.
Please contact our Customer Service Team at Create@woodenwick.com and our experts will assist you in finding the perfect wick for your needs.
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Place candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from anything flammable. Do not burn candles in a draft. Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
Makesy is a licensed distributor of wooden wicks developed by the creator of the Original Wooden Wick. Our patents cover wooden, semi-wooden or fibrous wicks exhibited in a planar, multi-layered, curved or varied shape wicks. Each wooden wick purchase on our website comes with a patent-protected license. The “click wrap” license is personal to the purchaser of the wicks and lasts until the completion or termination of the use of the wooden wicks (the specific wicks purchased on website). The license agreement gives customers the right/license to use the wooden wick technology and the terms of its use.
The best practice is to mark the candle product itself with the following patent marking: Pat. www.lumetique.com/patents We've created a pre-made warning label that includes the patent to make it easy for you. You can get them here.
The purpose of the marking requirement is to meet our statutory obligations under 35 U.S.C. § 287. We must ensure that any and all licensees are marking their covered products, and providing constructive notice to the public that the product is patented. All candle products (whether a wooden wick, candle, box, hang-tag or other form of packaging) must be consistently and always marked as being covered by the applicable patents and patents pending.
While sometimes overlooked by businesses, compliance with the statutory requirements for patent marking is critical to companies (and their licensees) that hold one or more patents. The purpose of the marking requirement is to meet our statutory obligations under 35 U.S.C. § 287. We must ensure that any and all licensees are marking their covered products, and providing constructive notice to the public that the product is patented.
We request that you provide us with your company name and the brand name (if different than your company name) for each candle that you manufacture so that we know where our wooden wicks are being used in the marketplace; that you are protected under the licensing agreement; and, your candle products are not susceptible to patent infringement.
All of our pricing is considered wholesale and volume discounts are already built into our pricing structure. However, we do offer bulk price breaks for various products. Any bulk discounts will automatically apply at the qualifying quantities and are available for reference under the “Bulk Discounts” tab on each product page that qualifies for bulk discounts.
Distributors are required to sign a Distributor License Agreement with us that requires our distributors to disclose their customers to us bi-annually. If you are interested in becoming a distributor, please contact us HERE.
We require that you provide us with the company name and/or the brand name (if different than the company name) of your customer so that we know where our wooden wicks are being used in the marketplace; that they are protected under the licensing agreement; and, their candle products are not susceptible to patent infringement.
To receive bulk discounts, you will need to purchase a minimum quantity of one specific fragrance type or item variation. Multiple colors or fragrance types cannot be combined into the bulk discount MOQ.
Our fragrances are a perfect match for all of our wax blends. They are also well suited to soy, soy blends, natural blends, coconut, paraffin, paraffin blends, palm and beeswax among others.
Using weight as your measurement is the most accurate way to measure fragrance. To measure, tare your digital scale with your pouring device and weigh out your fragrance.
While our candle fragrances are phthalate free and paraben free, high-end luxury fragrances of superior quality, they are not all 100% natural. The majority of our candle fragrances contain a combination of essential oils and fragrance oils that are formulated for optimum performance in a candle. However, we do have a line of 100% Natural Fragrances available as well!
The Naturals Collection fragrances are made from natural materials extracted from natural chemicals and essential oils and are ISO 9235 certified. The rest of our exclusive fragrances are made using the highest quality fine fragrance oils + essential oils sourced from around the globe.
We offer a variety of Fragrance Discovery Kits as well as single 10 ML fragrance sizes for each fragrance to suit your sampling needs.
Yes! All of our exclusive fragrances are approved for use in other products. You can find application percentages in the “More Details” section on each product page. IFRA and MSDS sheets are also available in this section.
EU Allergen documents are available for each fragrance upon request.
Fragrances are sold by weight, not volume. Often times, fragrances are not filled all the way because the fragrance molecules are dense, resulting in a weight that does not reflect the bottle's liquid fill.
Yes, all of The Wooden Wick Co. essential oils are 100% pure, undiluted, and made using the highest quality natural plant materials.
Yes! You can absolutely use essential oils in candle making. In fact, almost every fragrance oil we offer also contains natural essential oils. Essential oils, especially citrus, tend to have lower flash points than fragrance oils. You need to be aware of your essential oils flash point, so that you add the oil to your melted wax when the wax is lower than the essential oils flash point. We suggest adding 5-10 degrees F lower than the flash point. This ensures that your essential oil will not burn off, or degrade during the candle making process.
Some can, but others are only safe on the skin at lower percentages and need to be diluted in a carrier oil or base in order to be safe on the skin. Check “The Details” section on each individual essential oil product page for the skin safe percentages.
The list is literally endless! Essential oils are incredible, concentrated ingredients that can be used in many home fragrance and personal care products such as: candles, soaps, diffusers, melts, room sprays, body sprays, perfume, bath bombs, body scrubs, body lotion, shampoo, conditioner, face and body oils, hand sanitizers, linen sprays, facial mists, and that is literally just a few! Essential oils are also used medically and internally around the world. Not all essential oils are 100% skin safe or safe to ingest, so check each product page in “The Details” section to be sure.
If we're talking candle making (and we often are), then our recommended dosage for fragrance or essential oil is 8-12% by weight. We suggest starting by using the same % as suggested for fragrance oils, and then scaling up or down based on your desired performance and scent throw. When making your own products, there is often no “easy answer”... it's best to test things out, and if we're being honest, that's half the fun anyways! Some oils will be stronger than others, with fragrance or essential oils, and you may be able to decrease or need to increase your percentage based on your desired results.
The formula details for the wax blends are proprietary and therefore not available.
Only our Virgin Coconut Soy and Coco Apricot Créme waxes contain a miniscule amount of highly refined food-grade paraffin. We add a small amount of food grade paraffin because we have found it to enhance the performance of our wax and give an excellent hot throw. Scientific studies have proven paraffin wax to burn just as cleanly as soy, beeswax, or palm. And the highly refined food-grade nature of our paraffin puts it in the natural category. Contact us to read the study.
We offer a variety of wax discovery kits for sampling purposes.
All of our wax types are suitable to use in massage candles.
They are made from only 100% Natural wood from Sappy Fruit Trees sustainably sourced in the USA. Our adhered wicks are created using a vegan, non-toxic proprietary adhesive with wood species not listed in the CITED appendices or on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. They are not treated.
The Spiral Wick .01 is the newest addition to our unique Shaped Wicks Collection. Made from native sappy fruit trees, The Spiral Wick .01 offers a one of a kind cylinder shaped flame with a crackling range of 2-5.
No. Contrary to some of the information available about wood wicks in general, we do not recommend treating wooden wicks with anything before using them, in fact we advise against it.
The Spiral Wick .01 performs best in natural wax blends and typically burns an approximate 3” to 3.5” / 7.6 cm to 8.9 cm melt pool. The Spiral Wick .01 can be used to provide a modern, upscale look to your candles.
The Spiral Wick Clip was specially designed to hold the Spiral Wick completely upright, ensuring an easy manufacturing process + safe burning performance. Simply slide the wick into the clip, add your wick sticker, and place it into the center of your vessel.
Our Tube Wick is a cylindrical shaped wick that creates a 2-2.5” diameter melt pool. Our Spiral Wick is a cylindrical shaped wick that creates a 3-3.5” diameter melt pool. Both wicks are suitable for use in beeswax or natural wax blends with palm, coconut, or soy oils.
We love melt and pour soap because it is extremely easy for beginners to use! In fact, it is a great activity to do with your kids or family as well. To make melt and pour soap, simply cut up your block of soap into small pieces, and microwave in spurts of 20-30 seconds until the soap has completely melted. From there, you can add your fragrance and any other fun ingredients like mica, dyes, and dried botanicals to customize your creations!
Yes, in order to make soap, you must use lye. However, with melt and pour soap, the lye has already been added to the soap and gone through saponification. This means it is already cured and ready to use! When using melt and pour soap, you don't have to handle lye and can focus on the fun creative aspects of soap making.
Lathering, also known as the froth or bubbles that soap creates, is primarily caused by synthetic detergents or SLS in a soap base. However, 100% natural soap bases, like ours, can lather too! Soap naturally creates small bubbles when in contact with water. While you won't see as much lather as with synthetic soap ingredients, we far prefer the safety of using 100% natural soap. Our bases do not contain any SLS or synthetic detergents.
Either method works! We personally prefer using the microwave as we find this to be the easiest way to melt your soap base, and avoid overheating, however both methods are totally acceptable.
We do not suggest adding any other oils to our melt and pour bases. The beauty of melt and pour soap is that it is already a perfectly created, stable soap as is! Adding additional oils to your base will alter the hardness and performance of your soap. You can however add fragrance, micas, exfoliants, dried botanicals, and dyes to customize your soaps!
We suggest using 3-6% fragrance in your soaps. Be sure to check the fragrance product page: In the details section, you will find the maximum load you can use safely for soaps.
The amount of bars you can create depends on the oz fill of each bar you plan to create. To determine how many bars you can make, first choose your mold, then determine the oz fill of the mold, and that will tell you how many bars can be created! For example, if your mold makes 3oz bars of soap, you can make at least 5 bars from a 1lb block.
Our bases can be used to create so many different products, we could go on and on about them! However, we will stick to the most popular ones here. Organic + Wildcrafted Witch Hazel = Best for Room, Body, Linen, and Facial Spray. Organic Alcohol + Witch Hazel = Best for Hand Sanitizer, Surface Cleaner or Body Spray.
Organic Sugarcane Alcohol = Best for Hand Sanitizer, Surface Cleaner or Perfume.
Easy peasy! Simply pick your bottles, pick your base (we suggest Organic Alcohol + Witch Hazel, and pick your fragrance. Combine base and fragrance, add to bottles, shake and spray! We suggest 3-6% fragrance load. You can use essential oils or fragrances, plus you can also add crystals for a little sparkle. Be sure to use at least 60%-95% alcohol when making hand sanitizer. This base contains 75% alcohol.
Simple as can be. Simply pick your bottles, pick your base (we suggest Organic + Wildcrafted Witch Hazel, and pick your fragrance. Combine base and fragrance, add to bottles, shake and spray! We suggest 3-6% fragrance load. You can use essential oils or fragrances, plus you can also add crystals for a little sparkle.
This alcohol has not been food safe certified and we would not recommend using it for tinctures or other internal applications.
Ready to smell amazing? Simply pick your bottles, pick your base (you can utilize EITHER Organic + Wildcrafted Witch Hazel or Organic Alcohol + Witch Hazel), and pick your fragrance. Combine base and fragrance, add to bottles, shake and spray! We suggest 3-6% fragrance load. You can use essential oils or fragrances, plus you can also add crystals for a little sparkle.
Making your own perfume is both fun and easy to do! Simply pick your bottles, pick your base Organic Sugarcane Alcohol and pick your fragrance. We suggest using one of our Luxury fragrance oils. If you aren't sure which one to use, our Luxe + Chic fragrance discovery kit is a great place to start. Combine alcohol and fragrance, add to bottles, and you've done it! We suggest using 20-25% fragrance load. You can use essential oils or fragrances, plus you can also add crystals for a little sparkle.
Yes, all of our spray bases are 100% natural, organic, and sustainably sourced. Why? Because you deserve it.
Our suggested fragrance loads are as follows. Remember fragrance % is always calculated by weighing the fragrance. For help, visit our Fragrance Percentage Chart. Hand Sanitizer, Room Spray, Body Spray, Linen Spray, Facial Spray, Surface Cleaner: 3-6%, Perfume: 20-25%.
While it isn't necessary per say, it sure does make things a lot easier! If you don't use a wick sticker, the wick will move about and you may end up with a candle with an off-center wick. As all of us candle makers know, an off center wick is no good. Additionally, as the candle burns near the bottom, the wick sticker helps to keep the wick assembly secure and in place when the wax is completely liquefied, ensuring the utmost safety to those burning the candle.
While 1 pound equals 16 ounces, there is information that says that one pound of wax equals 20 ounces by liquid volume. We tried that theory and found that did not quite work for us and we ran short of wax. We are going to stick with 1 pound of wax is equal to 16 oz of liquid wax; therefore, one 5 pound slab of wax equals roughly 80 oz of liquid wax. If you were making 10 oz candles, this would create 8 candles. If you were making 8 oz candles, this would create 10 candles.
It may be possible for us to acquire additional stock of the vessel of your choice. Please email us at support@makesy.com with the style and quantity required and one of our customer service representatives will be in touch with you as soon as possible.
After the wax has cooled, sprinkle the mica on top or gently smear it on top the wax. Or you can add an extremely small amount (Around 1/32 teaspoon for 8oz wax) to your melted wax and stir in with fragrance. We've found the best performance by adding to the top of the candle after it has cooled.
Mica may also be stirred into the melted wax for a colored effect. Please note that adding Mica into your wax may influence your candle's burn performance. Please burn test prior to selling your candles when making any changes in color.
To decorate your candles using crystals, gently heat gun the surface of your candle after it has set to create a soft surface to place crystals into the softened wax on the top of your candle. Make sure to never place crystals close to the wick as it may fall on the wick or hinder burn performance.
We recommend using no more than 25% fragrance when making your reed diffuser.
No. We recommend pre-mixing your fragrance with your diffuser base and shipping it to customers in a bottle such as our Gloss White Bottle.
Because the black diffuser reeds contain a natural dye, some coloration is normal. If you are using a clear vessel for your diffuser we recommend using the Natural Reeds as they contain no pigment.
No. Our diffuser bases are Paraben free, Vegan, Allergen free, Phthalate free, with No Prop 65 Ingredients.
Our Natural Diffuser Base is the only 100% Natural diffuser base on the market, formulated without chemicals or fragrance enhancing additives. Our Coco Vegan Diffuser Base is infused with natural coconut oil, but is not free of all chemicals.
Our reeds are made from 100% natural rattan.
The recommended temperature for adding our Eco Dyes is 180 F / 85 C or cooler. Exposing the dyes to higher temperatures for prolonged periods of time may cause fading or color alteration. Color can vary based on your wax type, fragrance, and any other additives, so be sure to test and take notes to achieve your desired vibrancy.
Eco Dyes will work with virtually all wax blends. Certain wax types like Soy wax don't always hold dye as well, so if you have any issues reach out to your wax supplier for more information about using dyes with your wax type.
Our Eco Dyes are intended for candles and wax melts only. If skin exposure occurs, the dye may temporarily stain the skin.
Because of their concentration levels, the dyes have a slight odor to them that is undetectable when diluted into a finished product.
For the most dark and vibrant colors, we suggest using a 0.05% concentration. For lighter shades, we suggest a 0.005% concentration. If you are making in smaller batches, this translates to about 8 drops per pound of wax for dark colors and about 2 drops per pound for lighter shades.
All dyes in our Eco Dyes collection are REACH registered, which is a regulation designed to protect human and environmental health from chemicals that could cause harm to the people, planet or animals.
While not vegan, Eco Dyes are:
Free of Prop 65 Ingredients
Made with a Renewable Solvent System
Paraben and Phthalate Free
Made without Animal Cruelty
REACH Registered
Natural Powders can be safely used in soap and body care products. We would not recommend using them with sprays, candles, or diffusers as they may clog spray bottles and reeds.
For soap or body care, we suggest mixing 1 teaspoon of powder with 1 tablespoon of alcohol prior to adding to soaps for best results.
Some powders may leave natural fibers on the surface of your soap, that appear as small colored spots, which add a more rustic and earthy look to the product. Make sure to test to see how a specific powder behaves in your product!
Yes! All of our Natural Powders are 100% Natural, vegan, and sustainable sources.
Like Micas, we recommend starting small with a tsp or two and gradually increasing until your desired color and consistency is reached. A little goes a long way!
The Perks program is our way of showing how much we appreciate you! You can earn perks by referring friends, purchases, and much more. Perks can even be used to earn discounts toward purchases – that means the more you collect, the more you save!
Anyone can join The Perks rewards program. Once you create an account, you will be automatically enrolled in the program. See Terms & Conditions for further details.
You'll earn points just for creating an account! After that, you can also earn points by following us on social media, making purchases, referring friends, and more. To see all the ways you can earn points, please refer to the table above.
Select the “Get Vouchers” tab, located in The Perks section of your account. If you have enough points, you can claim them for a redeemable voucher. At this time only one voucher may be redeemed per order and cannot be combined with other discounts.
A redeemable voucher is a discount code for an amount off your purchase. To redeem, these voucher codes should be applied in the “Promo Code” section during checkout. Vouchers may not be combined or used with some discount codes.
We want to reward our loyal Wooden Wick Co. shoppers. That's why we now have unique voucher options that get better with each reward tier!
Nope, the sky's the limit! You can't cap creativity ;)
The Perks levels reset every 12 months from the date that the level was reached if you do not reach the required spend to maintain the threshold. For example, if you are at The Enthusiast ($250 threshold), and EARN that level on August 8th, you have until August 8th the following year to reach the qualified spend level amount ($250) again – or your tier will reset to the Enthusiast. When you move up a tier, that erases your previous “earn date” and replaces it with the new date when you reached the newest tier. You have 12 months to maintain that newly acquired tier.
Simply log in to your account and go to the The Perks dashboard. Select the tab “Earn Points” and click on any of the social media outlets you wish to follow. Log in to that platform and “like” or follow us! If you already follow us, simply unfollow then follow again to get points for the action.
“Approved”: These points can immediately be redeemed for a discount voucher.
“Pending”: These points need to be verified before they can be redeemed. This typically applies to purchases, reviews, and referrals. The approval period is 14 business days.
“Cancelled”: These points will not be added to your total point balance. This will happen if you cancel a purchase; the points will accordingly change from “pending” to “cancelled”.
Your points must first be redeemed for a discount voucher, which can then be applied to your purchase total during checkout.
Please contact us HERE if you have questions regarding tour Perks or to be disenrolled. Please note if you disenroll, any points accrued will be lost, and will no longer available should you decide to enroll again.
Send us your order number HERE and we're happy to get your points added. Points cannot be retroactively applied for any orders prior to September 1st, 2020.
Perk points are not refundable. Once a voucher is redeemed on your Perks dashboard, we cannot reverse it. It does not expire so if you missed using it on this order, you can save it and use it on another! In the event your order is cancelled and you redeemed a voucher on the purchase, the points for the voucher redemption will automatically return to your account.
