The Rise Of Green Beauty + Eco-Friendly Product Recipes

by | published

Let’s be honest, the beauty industry has really been cleaning up its act lately. Along with the rise of clean beauty, green beauty, which focuses on sustainable and eco-friendly practices, has become an equally important factor in influencing beauty product purchases among younger generations (gen Z and millennials).

Younger consumers are more concerned with purchasing eco-friendly products and the global sustainable personal care market is currently valued at $50.8 billion, is expected to double by 2031!

what is a green product?

Green beauty focuses on the health and well-being of both people and the planet, with an emphasis on environmentally friendly, ethically-produced, and socially responsible practices that promote sustainability and minimize harm to the environment and society.

While Makesy's made better™ standards mean our products are always clean, cruelty-free and vegan, we decided to make it easy for you to find green ingredients and packaging for your products.

Do you feel like your brand can do more for your customers and the planet? Our experts in the lab are here to make it easier for you than ever. We put together a few simple green beauty product recipes to get you started.

100% sustainable squalane face oil

Long known for its moisturizing & anti-inflammatory benefits for skin & hair, squalane has always been a highly sought after oil for beauty products, that was historically harvested largely through cruel and inhumane practices.

Recent focus on finding ethical & sustainable, plant-derived sources has led to a rise in availability and popularity for products containing squalane!

We source our sustainable sugarcane squalane from irrigation-free farms in Brazil who farm through regenerative processes.

This isn’t really a recipe but we had to let you know that 100% pure squalane is actually the MOST popular type of squalane product in the market!

Notable examples include The Ordinary’s 100% Plant-Derived Squalane, The INKEY List’s Pure Squalane oil, and Biossance’s 100% sugarcane squalane oil (look familiar 👀?).

These popular products' average retail price is around $10-$12 per 1 fluid oz. , which means a gallon of our sustainable sugarcane squalane could generate up to $1280 in revenue ($419.65 cost)!

Our experts suggest packaging this in our 1.3 oz / 40 ml frosted glass & bamboo dropper bottle for a plastic-free package.

eco-friendly squalane & vitamin C face mask recipe

A versatile ingredient that is suitable for all skin types, squalane has synergy with the Vitamin C found in our kakadu plum extract; helping to improve efficacy and moisturization!

This organic face cream is similar to Biossance’s squalane + vitamin rose moisturizer, and we suggest a sales price of at least $30.

The packaging and ingredients to make 20, 50ml/1.7oz face creams will cost less than $150, giving this recipe the potential for $600+ in revenue (300% ROI)!

    upcycled coffee body scrub recipe

This recipe highlights our new upcycled coffee oil & upcycled arabica coffee scrub! Both of these products are extracted from fair-trade coffee waste which is rich in caffeine and other antioxidants that help to smooth skin and erase wrinkles.

Both of these unique upcycled products are blended with our most hydrating clean body butter base, with soothing aloe and moisturizing coconut oil to soften and smooth skin.

This recipe was inspired by Palermo’s Coffee Body Scrub, and we suggest a retail price of $30-$40 each.

The materials and ingredients to make 25, 200ml (6.7oz) body scrubs in our eco-friendly frosted glass and bamboo packaging will cost less than $400 ($15.40/pc) but have a potential total earnings of $900!
