recipe

Makes approximately 5lbs of cold process soap

Ingredients:

    Base Prep:

    1. Put on your PPE.
    2. Measure 15oz (425g) 50/50 lye solution into container. Add 6.45oz (183g) of ice water to your 50/50 solution and mix gently with a silicone spatula. Place to the side and allow to cool.
    3. Measure 52.5oz (1488g) of Royalty Soap cold process soap Oils into a container and heat in the microwave until oils are about 95 degrees Fahrenheit.
    4. Into a small cup, measure out 2g (1 tsp) of sandstone mica and then pour this into your base oils.

    Instructions for Soap Base:

    1. Allow your lye water solution to cool to room temperature. It should be 60-75 degrees Fahrenheit. Your oils should be 90-100 degrees Fahrenheit.
    2. When cooled, slowly pour your lye water solution into your oils and stick blend until just past emulsion. This should take anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute and a half. Make sure there is no unincorporated oil on the top or sides by running a spatula around the edges of your container and top of your batter.
    3. Add 3oz (85g) of pistachio dream & coconut cream fragrance oil to your soap batter and mix with the stick blender for 10-20 seconds.
    4. Pour your soap batter into your mold and carefully tap down to get rid of air bubbles.
    5. Allow your soap to set up. Don’t proceed to the next step until your soap barely jiggles if you touch the side of the mold.

    Frosting Prep:

    1. Measure 6.5oz (184g) 50/50 lye solution into container. Add 2oz (56g) of ice water to your 50/50 solution. Place to the side and allow to cool to room temperature.
    2. Measure 25oz (708g) of Royalty Soap cold process frosting oils into a container and heat in the microwave until oils are about 95 degrees Fahrenheit.
    3. Into a small cup, measure out 0.6g (1/4 tsp) of sage mica and 3g (1.5tsp) of Jade Mica.
    4. Add the mica blend to your frosting oils and mix with your stick blender so no clumps remain.

    Instructions for Frosting:

    1. Allow your lye water solution to cool to room temperature. It should be 60-75 degrees Fahrenheit. Your oils should be 90-100 degrees Fahrenheit.
    2. When cooled, slowly pour your lye water solution into your oils and stick blend until medium to thick trace. This should take anywhere at least 45 seconds. Wait for the frosting to set up. This can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 30 minutes depending on your humidity, the heat of the room, etc. Give it a jiggle and if the soap can mound up and hold a peak without falling, it’s ready to pipe!
    3. While your soap frosting is setting up, prep your piping bag with your piping tip of choice. Katie used an Ateco 869 tip. Cut a small portion off the end of the bag until half the tip is exposed.
    4. Load the piping bag with your spatula. I recommend placing the bag in a cup so you don’t have to hold it in your hand.
    5. Use half your soap frosting on your first layer, making three even dollops across each bar.
    6. For the next layer, make two dollops.
    7. For the final layer, place a dollop on the top of each bar.
    8. Spritz the top with rubbing alcohol and allow to saponify and harden for 24-48 hours in a safe place away from people and animals.
    9. Optional - Sprinkle some eco-friendly glitter on top
    10. Cut and allow to cure for at least 21 days before using or selling.
