Formulating For Common Skin Problems

by | published

I got 99 problems but having bad skin ain't one. With lots of different skin problems out there, it can be hard to formulate to make the best product possible to tackle each issues. Lucky for you, Charlotte and Matt (our skin and haircare expert) are here today to tell you the most common skincare problems people face and what products you can use to combat them (with real effects!!).

  • Anti-aging and anti-wrinkle: These are probably the top 2 concerns people have with their skin. How to formulate for this: You should look for something that is going to give long-lasting benefits, and those are antioxidants!!! They help to reduce cell damage, which in turn helps the skin maintain a radiant youthful glow. We recommed: Vitamin E or baobab water-soluble protein extract.
  • Dark spots and blemishes: In order to get rid of as well as prevent dark spots and blemishes, a healthy skincare routine is a must! Like the anti-aging formulation we just mentioned above, antioxidants help with dark spots as well. The best and most well-known ingredient for solving dark spots is Vitamin C or ascorbic acid.
  • Skin-soothing: Many people have sensitive skin, but even if you don't, our skin gets irritated everyday from pollutants in the air, dry weather, etc. In order to combat dry or irritable skin, lack of hydration, and wanting to rebuild that skin barrier, we want to formulate with rich oils and butters to create a film that will trap in that moisture on the skin and prevent irritation. We recommend Organic Agave Prebiotic Fiber, which not only creates a film to protect your skin, but since it is a prebiotic fiber, it helps regulate the skin's natural microbiome.
  • Under eye bags/puffiness: These bags are NOT designer! Whether you're tired from a long day and not getting much sleep, or its allergy season, puffiness and under eye bags are so common. In order to formulate for them, you're going to want to use something that creates microcirculation in order to not let anything get built up under the eyes. We recommend anything with caffeine, so either a caffeine powder or caffeine base extract, which will help clear out the buildup and not trap so much under the eyes. We carry an easily-dissolvable caffeine extract that is perfect for the next eye cream you make.
