Elevate your formulations with Polysorbate 20, a mild surfactant and emulsifier renowned for its versatility in natural home cleaning supplies and personal care products. This premium ingredient acts as a solubilizer for oil-in-water emulsifications and a humectant in skincare formulations, enhancing both performance and stability. Perfect for DIY enthusiasts, it’s ideal for creating high-quality skincare products and eco-friendly cleaning solutions. Whether you’re crafting in small batches or purchasing in bulk, Polysorbate 20 is the go-to choice for those who value quality, sustainability, and effective results.

Polysorbate 20 is derived from sorbitol, a natural ingredient, and used in natural, eco friendly cleaning products. However, polysorbate 20 is not a natural ingredient. When Sorbitol – a sugar alcohol that can be derived from either a vegetable or a fruit source – is treated with 20 moles of Ethylene Oxide, the chemical reaction results in Polysorbate. Since most fragrance oils are formulated to solubilize in water, they can separate or create a cloudy mixture when being added to water-based formulas. We suggest using a 2-1 ratio of Polysorbate to fragrance oil in order to maintain a clear and well-dispersed formula.

Q&A

Is this Palm Oil free? What is the plant source? Does this require any Prop 65 documentation?
Hi Jenna, polysorbate 20 is not on the prop 65 list, so no worries there! Palm is one of the top 2 plant sources for polysorbate
While this will make your mixture clear, does it also give a yellow hue to the liquid like poly 80 can do?
Hi Lyssa, No it does not give a yellow hue.
If I am trying to use polysorbate in my body and room spray formula how much do I need to use for a 4oz Jar? I currently do 3 oz of alcohol base 1 oz of fragrance Im wanting my sprays clearer and more emulsified.
Hi Tayler, Try mixing your fragrance oil with Polysorbate-20 at a 2:1 ratio (2 parts Polysorbate, 1 part fragrance oil) as a starting point to help the mixture blend properly. Some thicker fragrances, or formulas with a higher water content, may require more Polysorbate-20. Continue to increase the ratio of Polysorbate to fragrance until the mixture stays clear.
